He retired from Cornell University and also owned The Hitching Rail in Virgil for several years. Bruce was an avid hunter who loved spending time in the outdoors. He also leaves behind several grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; siblings, Violet Payne of Berkshire, Joyce Payne of Marathon, Larry Allen of Lapeer, and Donna Canfield of Harford Mills; his first wife, Barbara (Bob) Nash of Pleasant Shade, TN; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Sharon Voorhees Allen, in 2014; a daughter, Carol Tanner, in 1998; and siblings, Gary Allen, Rose Payne, Daisy Hammond, and Gloria Allen.

The family will be present to receive friends at the Marathon Memorial Chapel, 4071 State Route 221, Marathon, NY, on Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Tom Boice officiating.
