Gary A.
Gerber
September 7, 1956 – April 10, 2026
It is with great sadness that the passing of Gary A. Gerber of Killawog is made known.
Gary was born and lived in the Marathon area the entire 69 years of his life. Born September 9, 1956 in Cortland to Carl and Mary Gerber, raised on their family farm in Texas Valley and graduated from Marathon Central School. He worked at several local industries, usually at tasks that required a large measure of skill, and finally retiring from Forkey Fabricating in Cortland due to health problems.
He was a man of simple pleasures who enjoyed hunting and a well-played game of golf, bowling or horseshoes, but there were times where he did not play well enough and then his disposition kicked in because perfection was in his nature. He took pleasure socializing with his friends and in particular, sitting down with his buddies playing poker and solving the world's problems.
Gary is survived by his brother David of Killawog, his nephew Matt (Kelly) of Allentown PA, niece Amy (Neal) Markwitz of Pavilion, NY, step-niece Regina (Don) Morgan of Foley, AL, and step-nephew Robert (Rochelle) Hulslander and family of Cobleskill, NY.
He was predeceased by his parents Carl and Mary Gerber, brothers Michael, Peter and uncle Alan Birdlebough.
At Gary's request there will be no calling hours or service and his internment will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations can be made in his name to American Cancer Society, Marathon Emergency Squad or The Mercy House of the Southern Tier, (a premier donation-based hospice care facility located at 212 North McKinley Ave., Endicott, NY. 13760). Final arrangements conducted by the Marathon Memorial Chapel, Marathon, NY.
Rest in comfort dear brother.
