Kona J. Whitney

Kona J. (Burk) Whitney, 57, of McGraw, NY, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2019, at her home, while surrounded by her family.

Kona was born in Roanoke, VA, on December 19,1962, the daughter of LeRoy “Joe” and Sheila Carrier Burk. She was a 1981 graduate of McGraw Central School and a 1983 graduate of Central Tech where she received a degree for practical nursing. A strong and courageous woman, Kona will be missed by her family and many friends.

She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Thomas Whitney; and her children, Tom (Kim Mullins) Whitney of McGraw and Alyssa Whitney of Wilson, NC. She also leaves behind her father LeRoy “Joe” Burk of McGraw, her sister Audrey (Lynn) Rider of Harford and her brother, James (Gale) Grummons of Wellesley; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and special friends, Beth Moorhead, Hassie McCarney, and Sheila Peak.

She was predeceased by her mother, Sheila Burk, on February 7, 1998.

Memorial services for Kona will be held at the Marathon Memorial Chapel, 4071 State Route 221, Marathon, NY, on Saturday, December 28, 2019, at 3:00 p.m. with Reverend Rick Reed officiating.  The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of Kona may be directed to the Kiwanis Club, Lion’s Club, or the Women of the 20th Century Club.
