Sandra Jean (Falso) Smith, 84, of Marathon, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at her home.

Sandy was born in Cortland, NY on March 21, 1942, the daughter of the late Dominic and Virginia Barnes Falso.  She filled her 84 years with warmth, laughter, and an unmistakable zest for life that brought joy to all who knew her.

A beloved mother, sister, and friend, Sandy’s legacy shines brightly through her surviving adult children: Pamela Jean Fairweather of Marathon, Frank William Fairweather of Whitney Point, Jeffrey Thomas (Shawna) Fairweather of Greene, Todd Wayne (Charlene) Smith of Marathon and Tammy Marie Smith of Marathon; her stepchildren, Pattie (Dale) Shedden of Killawog, Dan (Caroline) Smith of Florida, Dale (Lynn) Smith of Lisle, Doug (Carol) Smith of Lisle, and Penny (Bub) Davis of Lisle. She will also be missed by her devoted sister, Shirley Burk, and brother, Carmen “Pete” Falso; as well as 13 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, step-grandchlidren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Sandy’s memories are also cherished by many extended family members and friends.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Sally Gerard.

Sandy was a woman whose passions illuminated every room she entered. She held a deep love for playing cards and took delight in the excitement of a gamble or two, always enjoying friendly competition and the fellowship it brought. Her sociable spirit was evident in her fondness for dancing with friends, sharing a drink, and savoring the simple joys of life. With a voice that resonated with the songs she adored, Sandy was an enthusiastic singer of country music and was especially devoted to the music of Loretta Lynn, whose tunes became the soundtrack of many cherished moments among family and friends.

Her laughter and generous nature made gatherings brighter and memories richer. Whether hosting lively card nights or singing her favorite country songs, Sandy brought people together in celebration of life’s pleasures.

Sandy’s impact will live on in the hearts of those who loved her dearly. Her enduring spirit, sense of fun, and boundless affection for her family are gifts that will continue to inspire and comfort them as they remember her.

A graveside service will be held at a date and time to be announced.
