Obituary

Timothy Michael Brown, 43, of Marathon, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Johnson City, NY, after becoming ill at the Marathon Fire Station.

Tim was born in Cortland, NY, on January 25, 1983, the son of Kenneth and Colleen Barry Brown. He had been employed as a foreman for the Cortland County Highway Department. Tim will be remembered for the dedication he gave to both his community and the people he loved. He was a 22-year member of the Marathon Fire Department, where he served as past assistant chief and held the office of captain for a number of years. He was also a 24-year member of MAVAC, reflecting a long and meaningful commitment to service. Those roles spoke to his sense of responsibility, steady presence, and willingness to help others whenever he was needed.

Outside of his public service, Tim found great enjoyment in the activities that brought him together with family and friends. He enjoyed playing golf, hunting, and taking part in his annual walleye fishing expedition with his friends. He also loved music and had previously DJ’d for events, sharing that enjoyment with others and helping create memorable occasions.

Above all, Tim’s life was centered on family. He is survived by his wife, Heather Brown, and by their children, Aubrie Brown, Lucas Brown, and Colby Brown. He is also survived by his father, Kenneth Brown, and his mother, Colleen Brown. He leaves behind his brother, Brian Brown, and Brian’s wife, Sarah; his sister, Stacey Short; and a large circle of nieces and nephews: Alyssah Brown, Dylan Brown, Amanda Quail, Kaleb Wingard, Cody Wingard, Zach Short, Jenelle Short, Rayanna Vlasic, Isabelle Miller, and Cohan Miller; and two great-nephews. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and by the many family members and friends who shared in his life.

The family will be present to receive friends at the Marathon Memorial Chapel, 4071 State Route 221, Marathon, NY, on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The family has requested that you come as you are (casual attire). There will also be a time of remembrance immediately following the visitation at 1279 Turner Hill Road, Marathon. In keeping with Tim’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service.

Tim will be remembered with love for his devotion to his family, his years of service, and the many good times he shared with those around him. His memory will remain a lasting comfort to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
