Life Story

Paul Broyles was born in Hartfield, MO on October 21, 1932.  The impoverished life of this southern Missouri child did not deter Paul from serving in the U.S. Army and attending college at Southwest Missouri State.  His forgetfulness of a pencil in class one day introduced him to his life love, Phyllis Burton.  He worked full time and earned his bachelor’s degree in three years.  He was a model husband, father, citizen, Christian, and St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan.  His only downfall was an imperfect game of golf, but his life successes brought a wealth of love to his family.  Paul worked as a financial specialist at Ford Motor Credit Company before moving to BB&T in Greenville for several years before retiring.  His legacy includes three successful and independent children with college educations, Paula Dawn Moore, Stuart Broyles, and Steven Broyles.  He loved visiting his grandchildren Cortland, Christopher, Katie, Connor, and J.B.  Paul loved bridge with friends in Florida, golf with family and friends, and spending a life with Phyllis.  He enjoyed vacationing with the family in Florida around Christmas time for the past few years.  Paul’s favorite memories included the original, full-length version of Dr. Zhivago, playing golf on the north shore of Hawaii, traveling the Hawaiian shoreline in a red convertible mustang, and a mile-long dessert bar at the Hawaiian hotel.  Paul enjoyed an occasional bourbon and club soda.  For all who have an imperfect golf game, the family hopes you will enjoy a bourbon on the 19th hole to celebrate Paul’s life and those whose legacy you carry on.   Paul had requested that memorial gifts be made to Mayo Clinic Cancer Research through the Department of Development (4500 San Pablo Blvd.  Jacksonville, FL 32224)
